Official Bio

Julie Smith, LMFT, behaviorist, psychotherapist and award-winning author, is an expert in adolescent action, interaction and influence. As a social scientist, Julie has the insightful ability to uncover the hidden forces that drive human nature – especially in teenagers. She is lead behaviorist and founder of The Social Study, a behavior analysis consultancy.

A TEDx speaker and columnist, Julie engages with audiences around the world. Her pioneering workshops and presentations aim to dispel the myths of adolescent misbehavior and the stigma of mental health to help parents and professional create deep understanding and strong relationships and partnerships at home, school and in the community. Adults have called Julie “the voice of reason and truth” and kids say “she just gets it.” She has been featured in the Family Circle, First for Women and other web, television and print outlets.

Julie’s popular online courses and programs teach parents, educators and community leaders to “speak teen” so they can understand the language and cultural of adolescents while also providing the necessary support and guidance teens need. Julie’s speciality is developing communication habits and hacks to help you connect with teens quickly and effectively.

Julie’s first book, Mommyhood Diaries, an anthology of day-in-the-life diaries of moms around the world, won the 2005 Fresh Voices Award.

Julie is also a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapist and the Gerontological Society of America.
